Girls basketball: Missouri Southern a perfect fit for Gulf's Kayla Kivinski

Kayla Kivinski, a senior at Gulf, signed with Missouri Southern's basketball team Wednesday morning.

Kivinski has played on Gulf's varsity team since her freshman year. Last year she scored 528 points in 27 games and averaged 11.3 rebounds.

Kivinski said that of all the schools she visited, Missouri Southern, though far from home, was the only one that had everything she wanted and she was promised playing time in her first season.

Gulf coach Clare Ennis said Kivinski has proven that student-athletes can excel in academia and on the court.

"Missouri Southern's a very lucky team," Ennis said.

Kivinski plans to major in mathematics with a minor in chemistry, though she said she might change her mind.

"She's getting ready for a whirlwind of life," Ennis said, "and she's doing it through college basketball.
