SEMINOLE — For the third straight year, Academy of the Holy Names’ Emmy Martin won the individual championship at the Mustang Invitational at Seminole Lake Country Club. Thursday’s tournament was shortened to 13 holes because of rain and lightning. Martin was 4 under par on her 13 holes, three shots ahead of Clearwater Central Catholic’s Emma Paschal and Osceola’s Haydyn Gibson.
“My short game was really good,” said Martin, who had four birdies and nine pars. “I’ve been playing that way all season.”
AHN also won the team championship with a score of 31 over. Tampa Prep was second (49 over) and Osceola third (65 over).
Rounding out the top five individuals were Countryside’s Madison Glennie, who was 2 over. Mariana Ocana of St. Petersburg and Alison Armstrong of Cambridge Christian were tied for fifth at 3 over.
Paschal and Glennie were among a few golfers to finish 18 holes before the lightning started. Paschal shot 2 under 69 while Glennie shot 5 over 76. However, those scores didn’t count because not everyone finished.
