HomeTeam Hot Shots
A spotlight on the Times’ bay area players of the week.

Male Hot Shot: Kevin Norstrem, Brandon
Sport: Wrestling
Skinny: With a relentless romp through the 138-pound bracket at the recent Class 3A meet, Norstrem entered an elite stratosphere. His 12-6 victory over Longwood Lyman’s Jayden Semrad in the finals not only gave him a Florida record-tying fifth state medal, but made him the 100th individual state champion in Brandon’s glorious history. A Virginia Tech commit, Norstrem joins 2012 Brandon graduates Rossi Bruno and Clark Glass as Florida’s only five-time state champs.

Female Hot Shot: Brittany McGee, Admiral Farragut
Sport: Track and field
Skinny: Last year as a freshman, McGee burst onto the track scene with a stellar performance at the St. Petersburg City Championship. Friday, she outdid herself in the same meet, sweeping all four of her events — long jump (17 feet, 8 inches), high jump (5-4), 100 hurdles (15.20 seconds) and 300 hurdles (46.44). Her time in the 300 hurdles set a personal record, is the fastest in the state according flrunners.com and is the second-fastest in the nation according to milesplit. “I was real happy with what I was able to do in the 300 hurdles, especially after missing out on winning last year,” McGee said. “But I’m happy with everything I did. It’s a good start to the season.”
