Former Pasco standout Janarion Grant wasted no time in making a splash in college.
The two-time North Suncoast co-player of the year returned the first touch of his collegiate career 100 yards for a touchdown in Rutgers’ 52-51 loss to Fresno State on Thursday night.
ESPN clocked his kickoff return at 11.53 seconds, for what that’s worth.
Grant’s return sets a record in the brand-new American Athletic Conference. According to Rutgers, it was the Scarlet Knights’ first kickoff return for a score since Leto product Jeremy Deering’s 98-yarder against USF in 2011.
The rest of Grant’s night was less eventful. He returned a kickoff 13 yards and muffed a punt.
Grant is the North Suncoast's all-time touchdown leader, scoring 77 TDs in his high school career.
