In recognition of its run to the Class 5A state final, the Lakewood girls basketball team has been placed on the agenda for Thursday's city council meeting at St. Petersburg's City Hall. The Spartans were put on the agenda by council member Wengay Newton. Coach Necole Tunsil and members of the girls basketball team will be recognized at some point during the meeting, which starts at 3 p.m.

This is the second time Lakewood's girls basketball team has been invited to City Hall. When the Spartans won the Class 4A state championship in 2011 they were also recognized. This season, Lakewood was 24-7 and lost to Fort Lauderdale Dillard 57-41 in the final. It was Dillard's fourth straight state title.
