Longtime Seminole assistant Mark DeRuzzo will take over as the interim football coach this spring, principal Walter Weller said.

DeRuzzo will be a temporary replacement for Sam Roper, who retired from coaching after 28 years at the school. Weller said he asked DeRuzzo, a teacher on campus, to fill in. Weller said DeRuzzo has no desire to take over head coaching duties permanently.

DeRuzzo, who also coaches softball, will lead the team through the spring game. Weller said the school will stop taking applications April 26 and that a new coach should be named by May 15.
