Boys Student-Athlete of the Year
Matthew Schwartz, Land O’Lakes

Weighted/unweighted GPA: 4.45/4.0
Standardized test scores: 2200 SAT, 32 ACT
Sports: Cross country, track
College: Georgia Tech, where he hopes to study mechanical engineering or aerospace engineering.
Proudest academic accomplishment: Schwartz took the top prize in the annual Pasco County math competition for Calculus BC. Schwartz was the only entrant to answer all 30 questions correctly.
Proudest athletic accomplishment: Schwartz won his regional cross country meet and the regional 3,200 meters in track and field. “Those were a huge deal for me,” he said. “At the regional level there’s a lot of competition. It feels like a big meet. It was a lot more satisfying because there’s runners from all over the state.”
Did you know? Schwartz almost didn’t become a competitive runner. Coming out of eighth grade, he wanted to play football and even attended some workouts. “I decided to give cross country a shot,” Schwartz said. “I think I made the right choice.”
