Numbers align for Plant City's Devyn Salmon

PLANT CITY - Well no wonder Devyn Salmon chose Michigan State....

The Plant City High defensive lineman sported a green Spartans jacket at Wednesday afternoon's ceremony. Just so happens the number on the sleeve was "55" - same as the one Salmon wore for the Raiders.

So did the folks at MSU go that far in their recruitment of Salmon? To engrave his number on a jacket and a hat?

"No, no... the school was founded in 1855," said Salmon.

Quite the coincidence but one that he (jacket) and mother Buffy Moody (hat) are happy about. Nothing like putting that number on prominent display, so as to perhaps ensure that it stays on Salmon's jersey into his college years.

"Hopefully they let him keep that number," Buffy said.

The big man got choked up when, while addressing a large gathering of friends and family, the reality of having a college scholarship hit. He called it a "proving point" in his life.

Salmon wasn't the only Raider to sign, nor he is the only one headed to cold climes. Also Wednesday WR Dontavius Johnson and DR Quentin Robinson and Tranard Styles inked with two-year Ridgewater College in Minnesota.
