Pasco DB/WR Malik Johns will be sidelined for a month after breaking his collarbone playing 7-on-7 football, Pirates coach Tom McHugh confirmed Wednesday in a text message.
Johns was one of Pasco County’s breakout stars during his junior season. The all-conference receiver led the Pirates with 390 receiving yards on 15 catches. He caught six touchdowns and rushed for another.
The 5-foot-10, 160-pound athlete scored five TDs on special teams – including one on a punt in each of Pasco’s first four games. That helped him earn second-team all-Suncoast honors from the Times.
McHugh said Johns will be out for four weeks – which means he should be ready to participate when spring football practice starts May 1.
