Weeki Wachee OT Marcus Applefield has unveiled his top five schools: Purdue, Rutgers, Vanderbilt, Virginia and West Virginia.

Applefield, the first major recruit in Hornets history, made his announcement Wednesday afternoon on Twitter. USF, UCF, Missouri, Kentucky, FAU, FIU and Oklahoma State were among the programs that didn’t make his cut.

The 6-foot-6, 280-pound senior is one of Tampa Bay’s top recruits. The three-star prospect is regarded as one of the country’s top 100 offensive tackles, and he was No. 24 on the Times’ HomeTeam 100 list.
