USF, UCF, Vanderbilt football offer Weeki Wachee OL Marcus Applefield

Weeki Wachee OL Marcus Applefield continues to be one of Tampa Bay’s biggest recruiting surprises after a hectic Thursday.

The senior-to-be picked up offers from USF, UCF, FIU and Vanderbilt today, coach Mark Lee said. His only in-state offer before Thursday came from FAU. The Commodores are Applefield's first offer from the SEC.

"This has been a crazy day," Lee said.

Applefield, a 6-foot-7, 275-pound tackle, also holds offers from Rutgers, FAU, Marshall and UMass. He’s part of the area’s standout offensive line 2014 class and is one of the top recruits in the North Suncoast. He’s also receiving interest from Virginia, among others. Applefield is the first Division I recruit in the program's brief history.
