Meteorologists with the National Hurricane Center have identified a tropical wave forming off of Africa’s west coast. The tropical weather outlook issued on Tuesday morning puts the chance of further development over the next five days at 20 percent.
A tropical disturbance currently located just north of Hispaniola is expected to result in heavy rainfall for the Bahamas on Thursday. The system is then slated to bring rain and thunderstorms to Florida as early as Friday.
While the chance of further development is low, forecasters have noted that the chance of formation will increase once the disturbance reaches the Gulf of Mexico. The system has a 30-percent chance of increased development during the next five days.
Tropical Storm Gabrielle, currently located in the North Atlantic, is expected to begin breaking up on its approach to Ireland. The storm, which currently has maximum sustained winds of 50 miles per hour, is expected to arrive in the British Isles by Thursday night.
