While Hurricane Lorenzo doesn’t present a threat to the United States, it could have an impact on those traveling to and from the British Isles later this week.
The hurricane currently has maximum sustained winds of 105 miles per hour. Hurricane force winds extend 90 miles from the eye of the storm. Tropical storm-force winds extend more than 250 miles.
Hurricane watches are currently in effect for Flores, Corvo, Faial, Pico, Sao Jorge, Graciosa and Terceira. Tropical storm warnings have been issued for Sao Miguel and Santa Maria.
Lorenzo is expected to impact the western Azores early Wednesday.
The storm is expected to weaken during the next 48 hours.
Ireland and the United Kingdom could begin seeing winds as early as Wednesday night.
