What did strangers, loved ones, businesses, sports teams, TV producers, your dentist — or really, anyone or anything — do that annoyed you this year? Tell us your top complaints about life during 2020 via the form below, and we’ll publish them (for the whole world to reckon with!) in our fifth annual Festivus airing of grievances.
It has been 23 years since Dan O’Keefe wrote the classic 1997 Seinfeld episode The Strike, featuring character Frank Costanza (the brilliant Jerry Stiller, who died this year) and his made-up, anti-consumerism holiday Festivus. People still celebrate Festivus in real life, decades later. If you’re not doing in-person parties in 2020, at least the episode is available on Hulu.
If you’re not familiar with Festivus, this video is a good primer and festivusweb.com has the details. The basics, however, include: an unadorned metal pole (Frank finds tinsel distracting), and — most importantly — the airing of grievances, when people share complaints from the preceding year. As Costanza so elegantly shouted it: “I got a lot of problems with you people, and now you’re gonna hear about it!”
What’s your top complaint for 2020? Did your sports team blow it in some epic way? Did you reach a breaking point with a food trend? Did the networks cancel your favorite show? Maybe you had a first date from hell, your pet destroyed your home. (Did anything else happen in 2020? Hmmm, what could it be?) It doesn’t matter where you live, submit your complaints via the form below or to cspata@tampabay.com. This is not the time to hold back. Be heard! Let the pettiness fly!
