TAMPA — Tampa Bay residents will easily identify the Gandy Bridge in the opening scene of “Pain Hustlers,” which is now trending on Netflix and stars Chris Evans, Emily Blunt, Andy Garcia and Catherine O’Hara.

It might take a keen eye to spot the other area locales in the movie about an upstart and seedy pain management pharmaceutical company based out of an unidentified Florida city, but they are showcased throughout.

With the help of Film Tampa Bay, which is Hillsborough County’s film commission, the Tampa Bay Times spotted the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, downtown Tampa’s Adamo Drive, Tampa International Airport and Tampa’s Bayshore Boulevard and the inside of a condo with a view of that waterfront road.

Lakeland and Plant City are also name dropped.

The scenes were shot here in October 2022 and the movie also filmed in Miami and Savannah.

According to IMDB.com, “Pain Hustlers is about a woman who “dreams of a better life for herself and her daughter. Hired to work for a bankrupt pharmaceutical company,” she “skyrockets with sales and into the high life, putting her in the middle of a federal criminal conspiracy.”

The film is based on Evan Hughes’ New York Times Magazine article of the same name and the follow-up book, “The Hard Sell.” Both, according to Amazon, are inside looks at aband of entrepreneurial upstarts who made millions selling painkillers — until their scheme unraveled, putting them at the center of a landmark criminal trial.”
