It’s been said that fairy tales can come true, and that seems to be the case with Freefall Theatre’s successful run of The Rose and the Beast, which is now being extended through the end of August.

Based on the bestselling novel by Francesca Lia Block, The Rose and the Beast reimagines nine fairy tales including Snow White, Little Red Riding Hood, Beauty and the Beast and Sleeping Beauty.

Using a combination of visual storytelling, set design, multimedia and augmented reality, it’s a truly unique theater experience, and a safe one, too. Rather than being seated, audience members walk through a series of nine fairy tale-themed rooms with their own parties of up to four people. Instead of live performances, the narrative is voiced by actors, unveiled using an app called Zappar on audience members’ smart devices.

It’s best to download the free Zappar app on your device before you arrive and make sure your device is fully charged. Wear comfortable shoes; the production takes about 90 minutes to walk through.
