Top 10 Tampa Bay area events for the week of April 12-18

This week brings the belly-busting comedy of Brian Regan and huffing and puffing with the Fight for Air Climb.

Oscar Nominee Showcase: Because audiences didn’t have the opportunity to see most of this year’s Oscar-nominated films due to COVID-19, Tampa Theatre is offering a screening of all Best Picture nominees, as well as most films nominated for Best Actor, Actress, Director and Screenplay. The schedule includes:

  • Judas and the Black Messiah (126 min., R): In a plea deal, a car thief infiltrates the Black Panther Party in the late 1960s. 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
  • Mank (131 min., R): This is David Fincher’s Netflix-presented passion project about the brilliant and troubled screenwriter of Citizen Kane, Herman J. Mankiewicz. 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

Fight for Air Climb: The 16th annual climb moves out of the stairwells of the Bank of America Tower and into Raymond James Stadium. Participants will climb approximately 1,000 steps in the outdoor stadium. Benefits the American Lung Association. $35 (with $100 minimum fundraising). 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday. Sunday Pool Party: The poolside dance party features Jillionaire, a DJ from Trinidad who’s best known as a former member of Major Lazer and Diplo, and Danny Crespo, a 27-year-old DJ from Chicago. $25-$35. Henry V: London’s young playboy prince Hal has just been crowned England’s Prince Henry V. Find out if he can become the king his country needs. Jaeb Theater has been reconfigured for social distancing. Seating is available in pods of one, two and four. $35.50 (one), $79.50 (two), $99.50 (four). 8-10 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, 4-6 p.m. Sunday. Gasparilla Bar Invasion: Get your pirate costumes together, assemble your crew and get ready to crawl among more than 15 bars in downtown and South Tampa. There will be multiple check-in points to allow for greater social distancing. Due to COVID-19, buses will not be available to take participants from stop to stop. $10-$30. Noon-11 p.m. Saturday. Florida Orchestra Pops Concert: Socially distanced on the stage, the orchestra is joined by Charles Lazarus (trumpet) to present Fly Me to the Moon. $23-$53. 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday, 2 p.m. Sunday. Mahaffey Theater, 400 First St. S, St. Petersburg. 727-892-3337.

Jerry’s Girls: This tribute to master of song Jerry Herman brings the larger-than-life women from his shows center stage, including matchmaker Dolly Gallagher Levi of Hello, Dolly!, Auntie Mame and ZaZa of La Cage Aux Folles. $114 for a table for four. 8 p.m. Friday-Saturday, 2 p.m. Sunday. SPCA Tampa Bay Pet Walk: Bring your pet for a socially distanced walk with vendors and a costume contest. The event will also be held virtually. Benefits the care of animals. Bar Monte: Get a taste of normalcy at this traveling open-air popup bar with Italian flair. There will be themed cocktails, food from area restaurants, bocce, cornhole and more. Seating is socially distanced. Masks are required at all times unless actively eating or drinking at a table. Hand sanitizer is available.
