Worker fatally injured in fall while doing safety check at Orlando StarFlyer ride

The 21-year-old man died Monday morning after to falling to the platform of the 450-foot tower, the Sheriff’s Office said.

ORLANDO — A 21-year-old man fell to his death Monday morning while conducting a safety check on the Orlando StarFlyer, billed as the world’s tallest swing ride.

The victim was an employee of the StarFlyer ride at 8265 International Drive, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said. The StarFlyer, spinning as many as 24 people at a time from a 450-foot tower, anchors the ICON Park entertainment complex along with the 400-foot tall Wheel at ICON Park.

The man was climbing the StarFlyer tower when he fell to the bottom of the platform, the Sheriff’s Office said. Orange County Fire Rescue transported him to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he died.

The death was being investigated as an industrial accident. The victim’s name was not released.
