As Walt Disney World gets ready to celebrate its 50th anniversary on Friday, the theme park giant announced some news looking forward: Its immersive Star Wars-themed hotel will open to the public March 1.
The highly anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy ride will open next year, too.
Called Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, the immersive experience will put guests in what will feel like a space vessel. They sometimes will be in the middle of the action and can choose roles that will affect what happens during their two-night stay.
General bookings open Oct. 28 for the hotel, located near Disney’s Hollywood Studios theme park. It will operate much like a cruise ship, including meals and entertainment with a hefty price tag of $4,809 for two and $5,999 for a family of four.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will debut at Epcot in 2022, Disney announced Thursday. It will be the first ride at Walt Disney World to feature characters from the Marvel Universe. Disney has said the ride would be one of the world’s longest enclosed roller coasters.
Other news announced Thursday included:
- MagicBand+ will be a new wristband available starting next year that will have more interactivity with theme park attractions, shows and the golden statues called the Disney Fab 50 Character Collection that are scattered throughout the four theme parks. No purchase price was given.
- Oscar winner and St. Petersburg native Angela Bassett is the narrator for the new Magic Kingdom fireworks show Disney Enchanted, which officially debuts on Friday.
- Amazon and Disney have combined forces to add “Hey, Disney” as a new kind of voice assistant that will work alongside Alexa at home and across Walt Disney World Resort hotel rooms. Expected next year, it will let fans interact with Disney characters. And at Disney hotels it can be used by guests to call up more blankets and towels or find the fastest way to get to the park in the morning.
