Two record-breaking attractions opened off of Orlando’s International Drive on Tuesday, adding more thrill rides that don’t require theme park admission.
ICON Park has opened the Orlando SlingShot, the world’s tallest slingshot attraction, and Orlando FreeFall, the world’s tallest free-standing drop tower.
The Slingshot stands at 300 feet. The two-tower attraction launches riders two at a time out of a “volcano,” flinging them 450 feet into the air. FreeFall towers over the complex at 430 feet. Riders ascend to the top of the tower in a ride car. Once at the top, they are tilted 30 degrees toward the ground before falling at speeds of up to 75 mph.
The attractions join the Orlando StarFlyer and the Wheel at ICON Park. StarFlyer, which opened in 2018, is touted as the world’s tallest swing ride. It stands at 450 feet, swinging riders in a circle around a tower over the busy tourist section. And the Wheel, which opened in 2015, offers a stunning view of the area from 400 feet in the air. It is the 10th tallest Ferris wheel in the world, according to ICON Park.
Tickets for Orlando Slingshot are $30, and FreeFall is $12. Combo tickets are available that include all the attractions at iconparkorlando.com. 8375 International Drive, Orlando. 407-601-7907.
