National Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated annually from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 to recognize the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans. Here are 22 ways the Tampa Bay area is celebrating.

Sheriff’s Hispanic Advisory Council Banquet: This event honors those who serve as liaisons between the Sheriff’s Office and the Latin community. $125. 6-11 p.m. Friday (Sept. 15). TPepin’s Hospitality Centre, 4121 N 50th St., Tampa. 813-367-0040.

Coastal Comedy Night: Hispanic Heritage: Carlos Hernández (Only in Dade, ABC, NBC, Telemundo), a stand-up comedian, improviser and actor from Miami known for Only in Dade’s “On the Spot” interviews, his viral Spanish Accent Challenge videos and his Reggaeton Star alter ego, Yurisbel, whom he took to “American Idol,” earning a golden ticket, performs. $15-$30. 7:30-11 p.m. Friday (Sept. 15). Science of the Cuban Sandwich: Taste and vote for your favorite Cuban sandwich as restaurants showcase their culinary skills in a friendly contest, and enhance your experience with paired beverages. Hispanic Heritage Concert: Welcome Hispanic Heritage Month with a live concert featuring classic and contemporary Spanish songs by Orilla.
