TAMPA — Italian restaurant BellaBrava is now open at Midtown Tampa.

The opening was announced Friday morning on the restaurant’s Instagram account. The new Tuscan-inspired spot, from local hospitality group 2B Hospitality, is among the first of several highly anticipated restaurant openings at the mixed-use development. The group also owns BellaBrava’s flagship restaurant and Stillwaters Tavern, both on Beach Drive NE in St. Petersburg.

News that the popular Italian restaurant was expanding across the bay was first announced last year, shortly before the onset of the coronavirus pandemic. Construction on the 4,500-square-foot space inside the massive Tampa development has been underway since February 2020 (original plans had the eatery slated for an early February opening, to coincide with Super Bowl LV).

The restaurant is one of several food and retail concepts planned for the $500-million project from New York-based real estate developer Bromley Companies, a 1.8 million-square-foot complex at the southeast corner of N Dale Mabry Highway and Interstate 275.

So far, the complex includes a Whole Foods, a dual-branded Aloft and Element hotel, an REI co-op and Tampa Bay’s first Shake Shack, which opened in June. Other big openings include Ponte, the highly-anticipated fine dining restaurant from chef Chris Ponte; the Drew Brees-backed Walk-On’s Sports Bistreaux; and Oprah Winfrey’s health-focused True Food Kitchen, among others.

BellaBrava, which sits at Midtown’s main entrance off Cypress Street, will feature the same Tuscan-inspired menu as the St. Petersburg location including a selection of appetizers, salads, pastas and wood-fired pizzas. Though smaller than the St. Petersburg restaurant, the new buildout features an expansive, open floor plan with large glass windows and a central wraparound bar, which anchors the space.

To start, BellaBrava will be open for dinner Tuesday through Thursday from 4 to 10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 4 to 11 p.m.; and Sunday from 4 to 10 p.m.
