Beachgoers, rejoice in the opening of Playa Bowls in St. Pete Beach this week to help cool you off with healthy fruit bowls, juices and smoothies.
The shop opens at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 15, at 4655 Gulf Blvd. in the Dolphin Village Shopping Center. The first 50 people in line get free bowls and the first 100 will get limited-edition T-shirts.
Playa Bowls was founded by surfers Abby Taylor and Rob Giuliani, who wanted to re-create the acai and pitaya bowls they would enjoy on surf trips in Costa Rica and Hawaii. The business started in 2014 and has now expanded to more than 175 shops in 20 states and is a franchise.
The St. Pete Beach shop is owned by franchisees and brothers Ethan and Jacob McGowan. The New Jersey natives have plans to expand to Sarasota.
Patrons can order from the menu of bowls or customize them, choosing from proprietary blends made with acai, pitaya, mango, chia pudding, coconut, kale, banana, oatmeal and more. Toppings include fresh-cut fruits, seeds, nuts, granola, dried berries and nut butters. The bowls can be made vegan or gluten-free, and can be adapted for Whole30, Keto and Paleo diets.
The shop also offers juices, smoothies, cold brew and more.
Playa Bowls is open 8 a.m.-8p.m. daily. To learn more, visit playabowls.com and follow the local shop at @playabowlsstpetebeach.
