Singer Lucinda Williams’ livestream series benefits Clearwater’s Bilheimer Capitol Theatre

The cover series features a variety of artists.

In addition to her own prolific music catalog, multiple Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter Lucinda Williams has made a career of collaborating with many, many artists, often on tribute albums to legends including Howlin' Wolf, Loretta Lynn and Hank Williams.

With that collaborative spirit in mind, Williams has curated a series of themed, mostly full-band, in-studio tribute performances featuring various artists called Lu’s Jukebox. The ticketed performances will be livestreamed and will benefit small music venues that have been affected by closures due to the pandemic.

Clearwater’s Nancy and David Bilheimer Capitol Theatre is among the venues that will receive a portion of the proceeds from the series when people buy tickets online at rutheckerdhall.com.

It kicks off Oct. 29 with Runnin' Down a Dream: A Tribute to Tom Petty, in celebration of what would have been the artist’s 70th birthday (Oct. 20).

“We’ve actually wanted to do a cover series for a long time now, but never had the time with my touring schedule,” Williams said in a news release from Ruth Eckerd Hall. “I guess the silver lining in all of this has been to really get inside the songs of some of my favorite artists — see what makes them tick. My hope for this project is that we’ll be able to help as many venues as we can. They’re our homes, as artists. We have to take care of them, for the sake of live music to come.”
