Singer-songwriter John Mayer will hit up Tampa twice in the coming months. In October, he’ll play with Dead and Company at the MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre. And as that tour ends, he’ll embark on a solo tour for his new album Sob Rock.
That tour comes to Amalie Arena on April 5, 2022. Tickets are on sale now.
Mayer broke on the scene in 2001 with the quintuple-platinum album Room For Squares and earned three No. 1 debuts with the 2003 album Heavier Things, 2009′s Battle Studies and 2012′s Born and Raised. He’s won seven Grammy Awards including Song of the Year for Daughters in 2005. Mayer set records by earning seven No. 1s on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums chart and 25 entries on the Hot Rock Songs chart, the most for any solo artist.
In 2015, he and original Grateful Dead members Bob Weir, Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann formed Dead and Company. Mayer, who is an acclaimed guitar player, plays lead guitar and provides vocals. Since its formation, the band has completed six tours, playing to 3.4 million fans, and has become a record-breaking stadium act.
Sob Rock, Mayer’s eighth studio album, was released earlier this month to critical acclaim. Mayer hearkens back to the late 1980s with the album’s sound, with songs reminiscent of Steve Winwood. It was produced with ’80s superstar Don Was.
Tickets start at $45.75 and are available at amaliearena.com.
