Nearly a year after the Smashing Pumpkins played Amalie Arena in October, the band will return to Tampa.

Billy Corgan and company announced the 26-date North American “The World is a Vampire Tour,” which includes an Aug. 20 stop at Tampa’s MidFlorida Credit Union Ampitheatre. Interpol and Rival Sons will open.

Many dates of the tour will also include appearances from champions in the National Wrestling Alliance, which Corgan purchased five years ago. NWA has filmed several shows in Tampa since then.

“I grew up in a world where I needed to know bands like Siouxsie and the Banshees and The Cure existed, it meant there was a place for people like me to hang out and belong. That’s what The World Is A Vampire is about. Bringing back that sense of community,” Corgan said in a press release. “If you don’t fit in, you belong here. It’s about having a shared experience and respecting others, but ultimately having fun. A true alternative festival, where all the self-proclaimed weirdos and outsiders of the world can get together and have a party.”

The band is sure to also play their recently-released single, “Spellbinding,” along with other new songs from their final act of “ATUM: A Rock Opera in Three Acts”, which is set to be released May 5.
