Just a few years ago, Aidan Bissett was recording music in his Tampa bedroom during the coronavirus lockdown. In between his online high school classes, things like TikTok fame, a major record deal and touring North America were still dreams.

Now the rising alt-pop singer can check off each of those milestones.

Bissett, who signed a deal with Capitol Records just before graduating from Jesuit High School in 2021, announced his first headlining run across North America. The Supernova Tour comes to Bissett’s hometown on Friday, Oct. 20. Anna Shoemaker will open the concert at Crowbar.

Bissett moved to from Portland, Oregon, to Tampa when he was 5. During the pandemic, snippets of his music caught the attention of a new generation of music fans on TikTok. The floppy-haired songwriter, with a smooth voice and catchy hooks, was a big hit with fellow Gen Z music fans.

“The pandemic, as horrible and terrible as it is, has been a blessing for me in the sense of creativity. It kind of allowed me to be confident in a way that I wasn’t confident before,” he told the Tampa Bay Times in 2021. “I was like, ‘Well, I’ll make a TikTok. The guys can’t make fun of me now because we’re not in school, so they won’t see me.’”

Bissett shocked his classmates and teachers when he signed a deal to release an album with Capitol Records. The then-18-year-old told the Times that he dreamed of traveling the country and sharing his music with a new audience.
