New Kids on the Block, which once played a Super Bowl halftime show in Tampa, will once again bring summer magic to town.
The Magic Summer 2024 Tour is coming to Tampa’s MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre on Wednesday, July 19. It will be a reimagining of the band’s 1990 tour of the same name, which over 3 million fans attended.
“Fans should expect a summer of fun and nostalgia as the New Kids embark on their first mostly outdoor venue tour in 15 years,” a release from Live Nation said. “NKOTB will be visiting some of the most iconic venues on this tour for a night under the stars, including some of the very same venues that they performed at on the original 1990 Magic Summer Tour.”
Most of the members fans know and love will be participating: Donnie Wahlberg, Joey McIntyre, brothers Jordan and Jonathan Knight and Danny Wood.
Mark Wahlberg, who was once part of the band, was not included in the announcement. However, fans will get to see other 1990s stars: Paula Abdul and DJ Jazzy Jeff, formerly one half of the rap duo DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince.
In 1991, New Kids on the Block made a local appearance during a patriotic Super Bowl XXV halftime show in Tampa — the same night Whitney Houston sang the national anthem and the New York Giants defeated the Buffalo Bills 20-19. The Disney-themed performance featured 2,000 children, characters like Minnie Mouse, and a pre-recorded message from President George H. W. Bush.
