Part of the appeal of going to see Cher at Orlando's Amway Center in January is that you'll also get an opening set by funk-pop legends Nile Rodgers and Chic.
Now you can get your Chic on without leaving Tampa Bay.
Rodgers has squeezed a St. Petersburg date in the middle of four Cher tour dates across Florida, booking a concert at the Mahaffey Theater on Jan. 18. Tickets start at $49.50 and go on sale at 10 a.m. Monday.
Rodgers and Chic opened for Duran Duran in Tampa in 2016, but this will be their first headlining show here in many years. It comes after Rodgers was elected last year to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, not just for his Chic work (including hits like Le Freak and Good Times), but for his songwriting and production work. His shows with Chic these days deliver hit after hit he's worked on: David Bowie's Let's Dance, Madonna's Like a Virgin, Duran Duran's Notorious, Diana Ross' I'm Coming Out and Daft Punk's Get Lucky, among others.
