At the start of this season of The Voice, Adam Levine called teenage Tampa singer Domenic Haynes "my favorite singer in all 16 seasons of the show."

But when Levine had a chance to save Haynes on Tuesday, he took a pass.

In a down-to-the-wire decision that ended Tuesday's episode, Levine used his coach's save on teammate Mari Jones, thereby eliminating Haynes just shy of the show's top 13.

It likely wasn't a decision Levine thought he'd have to make. None of his team members were saved by America's vote -- compared to a whopping five from Team Blake Shelton -- meaning Levine could only choose one singer to move forward.

"I'm pretty shocked at the results. I think they certainly didn't reflect what these coaches thought should be happening," he said. "The person that I'm going to go with, I want us to put our best foot forward in this moment, and that person to me is definitely Mari."

It wasn't all bad for Haynes on Tuesday. He and the rest of his team got to sing Bob Marley's Is This Love alongside Levine. Maybe the Maroon 5 frontman will help Haynes forge a career in showbiz yet.
