The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office Monday said it discovered the body of missing paddle boarder Joshua Hensley.
Hensley, 43, was found in the waters of King’s Bay in Crystal River.
“We offer our deepest condolences to Joshua’s family and friends in this difficult time,” Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Jodi Sanders said in a news release. “’Captain Jack was a beloved figure in the community and will be missed.”
Hensley, who was known for dressing as Captain Jack Sparrow, Johnny Depp’s character in the Pirates of the Caribbean films, had last been seen by park rangers when he launched his paddle board at Hunter Springs Park. He’d been wearing the pirate outfit he was known for.
Authorities said Hensley was headed to Shell Island to watch the sunset. But rangers grew concerned when his vehicle was still at the park Sunday evening. His paddle board was found early Monday as crews continued to search for his body.
Hensley was the owner of Big Foot Paddle Boards. He posted a photo of himself with his paddle board to the company’s Facebook page Saturday.
“Ready to go have fun on the water,” it said.
It was his last post.
The Sheriff’s Office said it will continue to investigate the incident.
