Victim killed in wrong-way crash in Largo

Police arrived at the scene to discover one passenger was dead. Others were transported to local hospitals.

One person is dead and others were injured in a wrong-way crash on U.S. 19 in Largo early Sunday morning.

Around 2:14 a.m., officers from the Largo Police Department responded to a crash on the U.S. 19 overpass and found one passenger dead at the scene. A wrong-way driver traveling southbound on the northbound side of U.S. Highway 19 near 66 Street North, crashed into a vehicle traveling north, according to police.

Officers discovered a passenger from the northbound car dead upon arrival. The driver of the northbound car and the person riding in the rear passenger were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

The woman driving the vehicle traveling southbound and her passenger were also transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

Since the accident, the roadway has been re-opened and an investigation is ongoing.
