A bicyclist is dead after being hit by a car on State Road 674 in Hillborough County early Sunday morning.

A vehicle was traveling eastbound on S.R. 674 west of 24th Avenue Southeast Sunday around 1 a.m., according to Florida Highway Patrol. The car struck the bicyclist who was also traveling east in the outside lane on S.R. 674. The bicyclist died at the scene of the crash and the driver of the sedan fled, highway patrol said.

The bicyclist has yet to be identified.

Troopers were originally looking for a 2007 or newer model of an orange Toyota sedan with damage to the right front fender and a missing headlight. But investigators said Monday that additional evidence points to a dark-colored pick up truck.

Anyone with information about the hit-and-run crash should contact Florida Highway Patrol by calling 813-558-1800.
