WESLEY CHAPEL — Two women, ages 25 and 34, were killed Friday night in a head-on collision on State Road 54, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash took place at about 10:30 p.m. on S.R. 54 near Ashton Oaks Boulevard.
A 25-year-old Wesley Chapel woman was driving her car west on S.R. 54, approaching Ashton Oaks Boulevard, when troopers said she lost control and entered the eastbound lanes.
She then struck an eastbound sport-utility vehicle “nearly” head on, according to the Highway Patrol.
The Wesley Chapel driver suffered fatal injuries in the crash. The SUV’s passenger, a 34-year-old Zephyrhills woman, was also fatally injured. The driver, a 37-year-old Zephyrhills man, suffered serious injuries.
No one involved in the crash was wearing seat belts, troopers said.
The Highway Patrol did not release the names of those involved in the crash under its interpretation of Marsy’s Law, a state constitutional amendment designed to protect victims of crimes. The agency now omits the names of anyone involved in a crash, regardless of whether a crime was committed.
