BRANDON — The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has arrested two more people in connection to a June 10 shootout at an apartment complex.
Jawuan King and Devin Smith face charges stemming from the June 10 gun battle at Lakewood Place Apartments, bringing the total arrests in this case to three.
The incident occurred at about 2:50 p.m. at the complex at 1701 Lake Chapman Drive, deputies said. Deputies found more than 60 shell casings and an ammunition magazine for a Smith & Wesson pistol at the scene. No bystanders were injured in the shooting and deputies have not said if any of the participants were wounded.
Luis Monge, 21, was arrested June 12 at the apartment complex after he was identified with the help of a witness who saw him fire his weapon, the Sheriff’s Office said. He was freed from the Hillsborough County jail the next day after posting $15,500 bail.
King, 24, was arrested July 8 on two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm, two counts of carrying a concealed firearm, one count of discharging a firearm on public or residential property and six counts of violating his probation. He was being held Friday without bail in the jail.
Smith, 21, was arrested Thursday. When he was taken into custody, deputies said they recovered three firearms, including a semiautomatic rifle.
He faces two counts of shooting at or into a building and single counts of armed possession of a controlled substance, shooting at or into a vehicle, carrying a concealed firearm and discharging a firearm on public or residential property. He was freed from the county jail on Friday after posting $32,500 bail, records show.
The Sheriff’s Office has not released any other information about the shooting, including what led up to the incident. The investigation is still ongoing and additional charges could be pending, according to the agency.
