Across the weekend, Tampa Bay will continue to see heavy rains from a tropical depression moving west into the Gulf of Mexico, according to forecasters with the National Weather Service.

Tropical Depression 19 has moved off Florida’s southwest coast, according to Rodney Wynn with the National Weather Service. It is expected to become Tropical Storm Sally late Saturday afternoon as it continues westward.

Even as the storm shifts, Tampa Bay will see some heavy rainfall, Wynn said, and possible flooding. A tropical storm watch and flood watch is in effect until Sunday afternoon.

Wynn said he expects the National Weather Service will put out a small craft advisory to cover the Bay waters. Beach conditions also will be dangerous, with rip currents possible.

Tampa Bay should be back to normal on Monday, Wynn said.

“Next week, we should be in our more typical summertime pattern of scattered showers,” he said.
