St. Petersburg boy, 14, accidentally shot while teens played with gun, police say

ST. PETERSBURG — A 14-year-old boy was injured in an accidental shooting Tuesday night after a group of teens “played” with a gun, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.

Officers responded to a reported shooting at 917 8th Ave. S at 8:26 p.m., police said. The boy was shot inside a house and was seriously injured. He was transported to Tampa General Hospital and was reported in stable condition Wednesday afternoon.

Several other people were inside the home at the time, police said, including a 17-year-old who is set to be arrested for possessing a firearm as a minor.
