TAMPA — A 39-year-old Tampa man riding a motorized scooter on U.S. 301 was killed Wednesday when another driver turned into his path, troopers said.
The man was riding a Tao Motor Pony 50 scooter south on U.S. 301 when the driver of a Nissan Altima heading north on 301 tried to turn left onto the Lee Roy Selmon Expressway, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The scooter crashed into the Nissan’s front passenger side corner and the rider was thrown from the scooter. He died at the scene.
The Nissan’s driver, a 28-year-old Riverview man, and a 29-year-old Tampa woman riding in the car were not injured.
The Highway Patrol does not include in news releases the names of people involved in crashes, citing Marsy’s Law.
