Passenger killed, driver hurt in I-275 off-ramp crash in Pinellas

A passenger was killed and a driver seriously injured when the car they were in crashed along an Interstate 275 off-ramp just outside St. Petersburg early Saturday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The pair was in a sedan on the 54th Avenue N exit ramp at about 4:30 a.m. when the driver lost control of the vehicle, the agency said. The car left the road and hit a tree on the east shoulder of the off-ramp. The cause of the crash was unknown.

The driver, a 36-year-old St. Petersburg woman, had serious injuries, according to the Highway Patrol report. The passenger, a 48-year-old St. Pete Beach man, suffered fatal injuries. Both were wearing seatbelts.
