Driver killed after hitting disabled truck
A 27-year-old Tampa man was killed Monday morning when his 2015 Ford Mustang hit a disabled truck sitting in the median separating Interstate 275 and a Dale Mabry Highway on-ramp, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The incident took place about 7:15 a.m. The highway patrol said Ivan Olvera Rangel was speeding in the Mustang when he left Dale Mabry and entered the on-ramp onto I-275. The Mustang then cut through the median and struck the rear of a disabled 2005 Freightliner truck.
The impact pushed the truck forward, the highway patrol said, causing it to strike driver Chris Cobian, 47, of Brandon, who was standing outside his vehicle. Rangel was pronounced dead at the scene. Cobian suffered minor injuries and was not taken to a hospital.
Boy, 14, accused of having gun at school
A Hillsborough County seventh-grader was arrested Monday on a charge of having a gun at school.
School resource deputies arrested the boy, 14, at Webb Middle School in Town 'N Country after Tampa police received a tip during the weekend that someone with his first name was selling drugs on campus and was known to carry a gun.
School administrators conducted a search of the boy's property and found an unloaded .380-caliber semiautomatic pistol and two bullets in his backpack, according to a Sheriff's Office news release.
The boy, who is not being named by the Tampa Bay Times due to his age, faces a felony charge of having a gun on school grounds and a misdemeanor charge of possessing a gun as a minor.

A 27-year-old man was killed while riding his go-cart Sunday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol, when his small motorized vehicle was struck by a 1995 GMC Sierra pick-up truck.
The incident took place about 7 p.m. Cody J. Liller was riding his go-cart east on Central Avenue approaching Warbler Street.
Harold S. Dupree, 64, of Zephyrhills was driving his Sierra pick-up tuck in the same direction, east on Central Avenue and also nearing Warbler.
The highway patrol said that, for reasons still unknown, the front-end of the Sierra struck the back of the go-cart, propelling it off the road and onto the eastbound shoulder of Central Avenue. The pick-up stopped on Warbler Street.
Liller was taken to Florida Hospital of Zephyrhills, troopers said, where he was soon pronounced dead. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, the highway patrol said.
