Behind the scenes at Cirque

Jason Brass, left, a wardrobe assistant for Cirque du Soleil’s Kooza, talks with students from the Pinellas County Center for the Arts at Gibbs High School. They got a tour of backstage operations at Tropicana Field last week. Brass, a St. Petersburg native and 1995 graduate of Gibbs, has been working for the circus for 12 years. His advice to the students: “Grab as many skills as you can. The skills you learn now at school will make you employable later.” Brass worked on several productions while at Gibbs, including A Dream Play, The Nutcracker, Roshamon, and Celebration. Kooza ends its St. Petersburg run today, then moves to Royal Albert Hall in London in January. In front from left are Javiery Vasquez, 15; Jaclyn Wong, 16; Emily Wilson, 14; and Madison Cambell, 17. In back from right are Sara Thomson, 15, and Krista Eubanks, 16.
