Tampa police investigating homicide in north Tampa

A seriously injured man found near Fowler Avenue and 22nd Street died at a hospital, police said.

TAMPA — Police have opened a homicide investigation after an injured man found Thursday near a stretch of railroad tracks in north Tampa died at a local hospital.

Officers responding about 6:45 p.m. to the area near N 22nd Street and E Fowler Avenue found a man in his mid-20s on the ground in some bushes, Tampa police said. The man, whose name has not been released, was taken to Tampa General Hospital, where he died.

Police said the circumstances of the man’s death remained unclear Friday. He was found in an area where transients frequently gather.
