A 39-year-old woman from Lutz died early Saturday after driving the wrong way on Interstate 275 and crashing head-on into another car.

Aryail Marie Gomez was driving a 2019 Mazda CX-5 southbound in the outside northbound lane of Interstate 275 about 4:44 a.m., according to a release from the Florida Highway Patrol.

At mile marker 59, near the State Road 56 exit, Gomez crashed head-on into a Maserati sedan driven by 30-year-old Brittany Castilleja of Brandon.

Gomez died at the scene.

Castilleja was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital to have her serious injuries treated.

It’s unclear whether alcohol was involved in the crash, the release said. It’s also unclear when Gomez started driving the wrong way on the highway.
