The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office has identified a 21-year-old Hudson man who was arrested on weapons charges as deputies investigated the suspicious death of a person found inside a burned vehicle Friday.
Deputies took Michael Joseph Psilakis Jr. into custody on accusations of stealing a firearm and vehicle, delinquent in possession of a firearm, escape, resisting arrest with violence and battery on a law enforcement officer, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. He is being held in the Land O’ Lakes Detention Center.
On Friday afternoon, deputies responded after construction workers discovered a body inside a burned vehicle in the woods off Baillies Bluff Road and near the Key Vista Nature Park, said Kevin Doll, a sheriff’s office spokesman. Doll said the agency is not releasing further details about the victim or the death, which authorities are continuing to investigate.
The death investigation led deputies to question Psilakis, Doll said, but the sheriff’s office is not calling him a suspect in the case. Deputies found Psilakis at his mother’s Port Richey house driving a stolen car with a stolen 9 mm handgun inside, the sheriff’s office said.
When deputies attempted to arrest him, Doll said, he started fighting with them and tried to run away after he was handcuffed. More deputies arrived to help, and Psilakis was taken into custody.
Doll said no deputies were injured during the incident.
