A house boat that had been parked along the Weedon Island Preserve for months caught fire Saturday morning, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

At 7:35 a.m., someone along the western side of Gandy Boulevard reported the fire.

The boat was burned down to the water line, said Corporal Chuck Skipper with the sheriff’s office. The house boat was derelict, and deputies aren’t sure who the owner is.

The U.S. Coast Guard extinguished the fire. Tampa Police Department responded briefly before going back to the Gasparilla parade because “the boat was a loss and posed no danger,” Skipper said.

Nobody was injured in the fire. No fuel or oil was spilled into the water, Skipper said.

Deputies are not sure what caused the fire. The case is open.
