5-year-old killed in Hillsborough hit-and-run

A mother is injured and her 5-year-old is dead after both were struck by a car on Saturday night, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

At about 9:30 p.m., the mother and the child were walking along Rogers Road. The car hit them and the driver never stopped or attempted to help, according to deputies.

The 5-year-old was flown to Tampa General Hospital and pronounced dead. The mother was injured but is expected to survive, authorities said.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is searching for the driver who struck the family. They believe the car was a light-colored sedan. Officers have identified a car of interest that was in the area at the time of the hit-and-run.
