ST. PETERSBURG — A Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter rescued an injured 31-year-old Ukrainian man from a cruise ship on Thursday.
The helicopter flew him to Tampa General Hospital, where he was receiving medical treatment.
Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg received a request for a medical evacuation at about 2 p.m. Thursday, officials said.
A man traveling on Brilliance of the Seas, a Royal Caribbean ship, had suffered lacerations on his arms and torso. The ship was located about 20 miles west of St. Petersburg. The Coast Guard did not say how the man was injured.
Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater dispatched the helicopter, which used its winch to hoist the injured man off from the deck of the cruise ship. A medical profession from the cruise ship accompanied the injured man to Tampa General Hospital, according to the Coast Guard.
