TAMPA — Moments after a 33-year-old man was shot at Del Rio Apartments last week, surveillance video captured three men running and jumping over a nearby fence, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
Detectives are now searching for those men, and asking for the public’s assistance to identify them.
“If you believe you know who these men are, please speak up,” said Hillsborough Sheriff Chad Chronister in a statement.
Deputies found a man shot several times at the apartment complex at 5013 E. Sligh Avenue at about 9:30 p.m. on May 25. The victim was taken to Tampa General Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
Just outside the apartment complex, deputies found two cars that had been been involved in a crash on 50th Street.
Detectives believe one of those cars, a blue sedan, was involved in the shooting, then sped out of complex and struck a black car. The occupants of the blue sedan fled on foot. Detectives believe the shooter was in that car, as well as the three men seen in the surveillance video.
The occupants of the black car, a man and woman, were not seriously injured but were taken to Tampa General as a precaution.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office did not release the names of the shooting victim or the man and woman in the black car, citing its interpretation of Marsy’s Law, a constitutional amendment passed by voters in 2018. The law is meant to protect crime victims, but it deprives the public of information that had long been made available in Florida under the state’s public records law.
The Sheriff’s Office asked anyone with information on the shooting to call (813) 247-8200.
