Bicyclist hospitalized after riding into path of vehicle in Largo

LARGO — A bicyclist was struck after crossing into the path of an oncoming vehicle Sunday afternoon, according to Largo police.

The bicyclist was hospitalized and was reported to be in critical condition.

The crash took place at about 12:18 p.m. on northbound Frontage Road at Roosevelt Boulevard.

The bicyclist crossed the street against the red crosswalk indicator and pedaled into traffic, police said. No details were released about the vehicle and driver who ended up hitting the bicyclist.

The crash temporarily shut down northbound Frontage Road and the right lane of Roosevelt Boulevard for about three hours, police said. The roadways have since reopened.

Largo police do not believe that alcohol was a factor in the crash. The name of the bicyclist was not released by police.
