Brooksville woman, 34, killed when she turns left into path of SUV, troopers say

The collision occurred Monday night on State Road 52 near the northbound Interstate 75 interchange.

SAN ANTONIO — A 34-year-old Brooksville woman was killed when she turned left into the path of an oncoming SUV on State Road 52 near the northbound Interstate 75 interchange, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The woman was headed east in her car and had entered the left turn lane of S.R. 52 when the collision occurred about 10:30 p.m. Monday. She turned in front of an oncoming SUV driven by a 29-year-old Dade City man and SUV struck the passenger side of her car, troopers said.

The Highway Patrol did not release the identity of either driver because of its interpretation of Marsy’s Law, a constitutional amendment passed by voters in 2018. The law is meant to protect crime victims, but it deprives the public of information that had long been made available in Florida under the state’s public records law.
